Janet Campbell was a perfectionist driven by the need to succeed at anything she undertook. Passing a driving test was just another of life's hurdles that she intended to clear with ease. Failure was not a word in her vocabulary.

Her driving instructor, John Williamson, soon noticed that here was a very disciplined, self assured young lady. Additionally there was no sign of her being over confident. "If only all my pupils were like her he thought, then my instructor's job would be totally stress free"

As expected Janet passed her written driving test exam with ease and sailed through the practical driving test.

When her instructor, after congratulating her, suggested a course of defensive driving instruction lessons Janet firmly but politely declined. "Why would I need defensive driving lessons" she thought "After all I am now a fully qualified driver and driving lessons cost a lot without having to pay for supplementary ones."

The evening turned out to be one of those glorious summer ones. "Just ideal for a drive in the country" thought Janet. I will let my mother know my good news and take her out in the car.

With her mother sitting contentedly beside her, she drove through country lanes feeling totally relaxed and happy. However, in a little while it became apparent that she was not the only one who had thought that that it was an ideal night for a drive and soon she found herself in the middle of a short stream of traffic. She began to feel a bit uneasy about the car behind her which seemed to be driving very close.

Suddenly, the car in front of her braked sharply. Janet, who had left plenty of space between them, also had time to brake. Unfortunately the car behind her drove into the back of her badly shaking Janet and her mother and causing a lot of damage to the rear of the car.

The next day John Williamson was relaxing between between lessons with a welcome cup of coffee when he heard his receptionist who was on the phone say "Yes Miss Campbell I can book you in for a course of defensive driving lessons with Mr Williams"

John Williams smiled to himself and left to pick up his next pupil.
